Flap Rush Mechanics Explained
Understanding what the game is actually doing turns guesswork into decisions. This is a plain-English tour of the physics, the pipe generator, the difficulty ramp and the scoring rules.

Gravity and the flap impulse
Your beast is a single point with a vertical velocity. Every frame, gravity adds a fixed amount of downward speed. A tap does not add speed — it replaces your current vertical velocity with a fixed upward value.
That one detail explains almost everything. It means a tap while plummeting and a tap while already rising both produce the same upward launch, which is why rapid double-taps send you to the ceiling: each one restarts the climb from full strength.
Why falling is more precise than flapping
Gravity is gradual and continuous; a flap is instantaneous and always the same size. Fine adjustments downward are therefore possible, while fine adjustments upward are not. Good players exploit this by approaching gaps slightly below centre and using exactly one tap to carry through — never two.
How pipes and gaps are generated
Pipes spawn at a fixed horizontal spacing with a gap placed at a randomised height, but the randomiser is bounded: consecutive gaps can never be so far apart vertically that a single well-timed tap cannot bridge them. In other words, every layout the game produces is survivable. If a gap felt impossible, the run was already off-line one pipe earlier.
Collision is forgiving on purpose
The collision shape is slightly smaller than the drawn sprite, so a visual scrape against the pipe edge is often not a death. This is deliberate — it makes near misses feel rewarding instead of unfair. Do not build a strategy on it, but do not panic when a wing appears to clip either.
The speed ramp
As your score climbs, two things change: pipes travel toward you faster and gaps narrow slightly. Gravity and flap strength stay constant. This is why the correct high-score adaptation is a faster tap cadence rather than stronger inputs — the physics did not change, only the time you have to apply it.

Scoring, gems and currency
One point is scored per pipe cleared. Gems are separate: they are collectible currency that feeds the store rather than your leaderboard score, and they spawn on and around the flight line. Because they do not raise your rank, a gem is never worth a risky detour during a record attempt.
Lives, revives and continues
A standard run is one life. Extra lives and Phoenix Revive resume the same run rather than starting a new one, so the score carries over and the speed ramp stays where it was — which is precisely why a revived run is harder to hold onto than a fresh one. Free players can continue after watching a sponsored break; subscribers continue without ads.
Score submission and fairness
Scores are validated server-side when a run ends, and implausible submissions are rejected rather than shown. Leaderboard names are moderated through a profanity filter. The result is that the top 10 reflects real runs.
Turning mechanics into points
